The hotel needs your original passport to check your booking and register your stay. If you have no reservation, ask about availability, room type, total price, and deposit before agreeing.
01
Find the correct property
Match the Chinese hotel name and street address with your booking. Chains may have several branches in one city. If arriving late, message the property so the room is not released.
02
Show passport and booking
Give the front desk the original passports for every foreign guest. Show the reservation name and confirmation. The hotel will scan the documents and complete accommodation registration.
03
Confirm the room and charges
Check the number of nights and guests, bed type, breakfast, total price, tax, and deposit. If walking in, ask which rooms are available and see the room before paying if necessary.
04
Collect the key and key information
Confirm the room number, Wi-Fi, breakfast location and time, checkout time, and how the deposit will be returned. Keep the hotel's Chinese address for your next taxi ride.

COMMON PROBLEMS
What catches visitors out
Booking name does not match
Use the passport spelling when booking. A nickname or missing family name can slow down check-in.
Deposit or card pre-authorization
Ask whether the amount is a charge or a temporary hold, and when it will be released.
Private accommodation
A hotel registers you. For a private home or other non-hotel stay, the host and guest must follow the separate local accommodation-registration process.
